Typhoon!

My first attempt at blogging from my phone so will keep this short, though I have a ton to talk about.  So today we took a bus to Can Tho City to visit a very special orphanage - more about that place later.  But there are various Typhoons circling around Vietnam right now, and we had this dump of rain for half the night last night.  So we woke up early to catch our bus and things got crazier and crazier.

The Diversity of Rain Ponchos was really something to see

First it was just watching the moto riders with their cool rain panchos.  But then we started seeing some flooding.  Then we Really started seeing flooding...

These bikes were cool with the water for like 5 minutes, and then they dutifully conked out

It got to the point that 1000s of motorbikes were sinking into the water.  Our bus was like a lifeboat floating over the mayhem.  Let's see if I can upload a short clip here...

Bummer - doesn't seem like videos work on this app, so will make due with photos for now.  As the bus rolled through deep water, it kicked up a huge wake that rolled right into family living rooms, as houses here often are totally open in the front.  People seemed at first amused by the flood and then a bit freaked, as u see moms with babies in 3 feet of water and pushing a dead scooter.  Turns out scooters suck for deep water and we saw literally hundreds stalled in the water.  A whole impromptu business started for the guys who knew how to dry out the key engine parts and restart them...

Gotta go sleep - more news tomorrow...

We had to dump the shoes to get off the bus, but at least we didn't need to swim, which seemed possible at one point
